Governor swears in new fire marshal Chartier

PROVIDENCE – Gov. Donald L. Carcieri last week administered the oath of office to new state Fire Marshal John Chartier.
A former chief of the Warwick Fire Department, Chartier replaces Frank Sylvester, who left the position to serve as chief of Lincoln’s Lime Rock Fire District.
Before being promoted to chief of the Warwick City Fire Department, Chartier served as assistant chief from 1999 to 2001. He joined the Warwick City Fire Department in 1976 and has held positions including firefighter, lieutenant, company commander and deputy chief.
Chartier received an executive fire officer degree from the National Fire Academy in Emmittsburg, Md., in 1998. &#8226
