PROVIDENCE – Hasbro Children’s Hospital was the beneficiary of a $103,066 donation from seasonal Halloween retailer Spirit Halloween, which the hospital received Jan. 22 from Spirit representatives.
The funds, according to a news release, were raised via Spirit Halloween’s “Spirit for Children” program, which provides financial support to children’s hospitals across the country, from purchases made by customers or through individual customer donations.

The money Hasbro Children’s Hospital received from the 2018 program – which represents a more than 35 percent increase year over year – will benefit the hospital’s Child Life program, offering young patients a “sense of normalcy” through play and storytelling, the release states. Child Life specialists, as part of the program, also educate patients and their families about a child’s illness and what can be expected during test procedures.
“Every family comes through our doors with some level of trepidation, and it’s our Child Life team that is simply amazing at making them feel more comfortable. We are so grateful for this gift,” said Margaret Van Bree, president of Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital, in a statement.
Van Bree described Spirit Halloween as a “true partner” in the hospital’s work.
Since Spirit Halloween began helping Hasbro Children’s Hospital in 2011, the Spirit for Children program has raised $440,998 for the hospital, the release states.
