Did you select your profession or did it select you? Both. I have always been interested in public service and so right after college, I chose to do AmeriCorps. After earning my master’s degree, I chose to work on [former] President Barack Obama’s campaign. But gradually, and perhaps lately, I have found that the profession is choosing me.
Where do you see yourself professionally in 20 years? In 20 years I see a few different paths. I could wind up running a state agency, I could transition into the private/philanthropy sector, and I would also consider running for office. Either way, in 20 years I hope to continue to lead and serve within my community.
What’s the best career advice you’ve received? Working for Gov. [Gina M.] Raimondo over the past five years has provided me the best indirect career advice.
What advice would you give your 22-year-old self? Be patient, be humble and listen.
