Steven Filippi, owner of Hotel Manisses, said in prepared remarks that he was “honored and grateful” for the award.

In its recognition of the newly-renovated Victorian landmark – which was built in 1870 – the publication said in its May/June edition:

“When merely escaping to an island isn’t enough, the calming aura and polished service at this Block Island favorite can offer that extra little leap away from reality. An intensive interior makeover completed by new owners in 2016 has given the Victorian landmark’s 17 rooms and restaurant fresh, posh appeal. There’s little that past guests will recognize, as the décor has been entirely redone in soothing shades of ivory, gold, and dove blue. But at least one beloved tradition survives: the bar’s signature flaming coffee.”

Hotel Manisses was purchased by the Filippi family in October 2015 and renovations began soon after. The venue offers 17 boutique hotel rooms and dining with the Manisses Restaurant and Bar.

The magazine also listed other Editor’s Choice picks in Rhode Island, which can be found HERE. Award winners include Savoy Bookshop and Cafe in Westerly for best book store, Clay Head Preserve in Block Island for best nature experience, Lincoln Woods State Park as best state park, Maxwell Mays Cottage in Coventry for best adventure lodging, the Henry Collins Inn in Newport for best budget B&B, and Hotel Dolce Vita in Providence for best city hotel. Weekapaug Inn in Westerly was named best restaurant for a lobster roll.
