  1. It is impossible for the average Rhode Island taxpayer to understand why a new baseball stadium in Providence would produce substantial new economic development and create good paying jobs. Making McCoy Stadium a part of the new Blackstone River Valley National Park and using state funds and matching federal funds to renovate McCoy Stadium and improve the infrastructure in the Blackstone Valley would be easy for the average Rhode Island taxpayer to understand. A 10 million dollar investment by the State of Rhode Island would produce 90 million dollars of matching federal funds to accomplish both of the above mentioned goals. Once the new National Park is up and running, the tourists would start arriving and these tourists would need places to stay, places to eat and places to relax and enjoy themselves. Thousands of new good paying jobs would be created. Why aren’t the new owners of the PawSox looking at this scenario?
