LINCOLN – Companies who occupy the New England Way Industrial Park have created a long-term community program aimed at keeping the park clean and tidy for business employees and visitors.

The group, called the New England Way Industrial Park Association, organized after one of the companies formed a partnership with Keep Blackstone Valley Beautiful for a post-Earth Day cleanup.

That company, Tanury Industries, had 10 employees who collected almost 40 bags of garbage at the park. Litter included items such as empty bottles, wrappers, and tires and vinyl siding.

Tom Tanury, the company president, invited neighboring companies to join in a continuing effort. The program kicked off in July.

Michael Calise, president of Calise Bakery, said the effort gives the companies a chance to give back to the community.

A study published by Keep America Beautiful has found the presence of litter actually contributes to more littering. Since the effort to clean up the industrial park began, only a small amount of litter has reaccumulated, according to a news release.
