What led you to choose health care as your profession? I have always been fascinated by how the mind works. I have witnessed several individuals who struggled with mental health and substance use challenges. I went into behavioral health care with a strong desire to better understand those struggles and do my best to lend my help.

How have you helped boost the quality of access to health care? With my experience treating mental illness, and my education in patient safety and quality, I have implemented several quality improvement efforts, and streamlined our intake and referral process. I have also developed several workforce development programs to enhance training and support for our team members so that they can provide the highest-quality care.

What is the biggest challenge you and your organization are facing this year? We became a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic to further enhance quality and access to care for our community. With that comes increased staffing requirements and expanding services. Recruiting talented staff to add to our already compassionate and dedicated team will be an ongoing focus for us this year.

Are you confident patient access and quality of care will improve in Rhode Island over the next five years? Why or why not? The CCBHC initiative has transformed behavioral health care in the state. I am confident that with ongoing support for this model of care, it will enhance access and quality of behavioral health services across the state. From that, patient outcomes and quality of life will improve.
