PROVIDENCE – Wind advisories remained in place for much of southern Rhode Island Tuesday as Jose, formerly a hurricane, moves north and weakens to a tropical storm according to the National Weather Service Wednesday.
The storm is expected to turn east before making landfall in New England, but still is expected to affect Block Island, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod, which are all under tropical storm warnings.

Southeastern Providence County, including Providence, Kent County and Bristol County, Massachusetts, remained under a hazardous weather advisory from 10 a.m. Wednesday until 6 p.m. Thursday. A wind advisory is in place for the same area through 6 p.m. Thursday.
Washington County, Newport County and parts of Bristol County, Massachusetts, are under a high surf advisory as well until 8 a.m. Friday
The NWS warns that winds as strong as those predicted for the area are capable of downing tree limbs and branches, creating a possibility for power outages. The NWS also warned that driving may be difficult.
A small craft advisory is in effect for Narragansett Bay through Thursday afternoon.
