
PROVIDENCE – At its annual meeting on Jan. 11, College Unbound announced Patricia Kidder, an attorney and owner of Credit’s Cool in Newport, will serve as the next chairman of its board of trustees.
Kidder succeeds William Holland, a former R.I. commissioner of higher education, who held the role for two years. Chairs of the College Unbound board serve for one-year renewable terms.

Prior to the new appointment, Kidder served as vice chairman of the board.
At the meeting, Louis Soars, of the American Council of Education, was named vice chairman of the board; Chris Montagnino, of New York’s Academic Partnerships, was named secretary; and Cedric Huntley, of The Metropolitan Regional Career and Technical Center in Providence, was named treasurer.
Retired R.I. Superior Court Judge Judith Savage was named the board’s newest member, bringing the total to 22.
Additional members of the College Unbound board include: Seney Chang, Richard Culatta, Jennifer Davis-Allison, Nancy Diaz, Scott Evenbeck, Todd Flaherty, Hon. Robert G. Flanders, Armeather Gibb, Nicholas Longo, Carlos Moreno, Hon. Joseph McNamara, J. Phillip Schmidt, Hon. Rogeriee Thompson, Jovan Uvin, Darrell Waldron, co-founder Elliot Washor and Ex-Officio President Dennis Littky.
The 9-year-old organization was founded by Littky and Adam Bush as a branch of Littky’s The Big Picture Learning Corp., The Met School and the multiple institutions modeled after the institution that have cropped up worldwide since.
College Unbound targets adult, minority and low-income students who left college because of personal and financial challenges. It provides those individuals with evening and weekend class times and intensive, one-on-one advising and social supports to help them complete their bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership and change. Most complete the program in typically less than two years.
