Landmark drops its plan for Caritas PET services

WOONSOCKET – Landmark Medical Center has withdrawn its certificate-of-need application to provide PET and CT scanning services on its campus, one day per week, through a contract with Caritas PET Imaging, a division of the company that is buying the hospital.
The R.I. Department of Health said the application was withdrawn on Aug. 27 – the same day the hospital submitted an asset-purchase agreement with Caritas to Superior Court Judge Michael A. Silverstein, who has overseen the hospital since it went into receivership in 2008.
The PET/CT plan, which Landmark had said would begin next January and cost $368,486 per year, would have replaced an existing arrangement with Rhode Island PET Services, a company that Landmark partly owns. In June, a partner in that business filed a lawsuit to stop the deal. •
