PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Housing Resources Commission this week announced the launch of a Web-based utility that makes lead-inspection records available to renters.

Each certificate must be issued by licensed lead professionals; it verifies that a given rental property has passed an “Independent Clearance Inspection” and is in compliance with the state’s Lead Hazard Mitigation Act, as revised in 2005. That law sets minimum standards for rental properties built before 1978, the commission said.
The Web utility was officially launched yesterday at the R.I. Department of Administration with a demonstration by RIHRC Chair Susan Baxter. Attending were other officials and advocates who have been active in the creation of the state Lead Hazard Mitigation Program.
The 27-member R.I. Housing Resources Commission, established in 1998, is the official coordinator of planning, policy, standards and programs for Ocean State housing issues. For additional information, visit www.hrc.ri.gov.
