LINCOLN – A fire marshal who was indicted on child pornography charges has surrendered his emergency medical technician license, according to R.I. Department of Health documents. Jeffrey Almond voluntarily surrendered his license last week in accordance with a consent order issued by RIDOH. In August, Almond was indicted on several charges: one count of the receipt of child pornography, one count of the possession of child pornography, one count of attempting to transfer obscene material to a minor and one count of transferring obscene material to a minor. According to court documents, in August 2024 Almond, a fire marshal for the town of Lincoln, had chatted with an undercover police officer, who was posing as a 15-year-old girl, through the social media app Whisper. Allegedly, Almond asked the girl to share child pornography and discussed meeting in person. Almond also allegedly sent explicit photos of himself while discussing having sex. Then, in October and November 2024, Almond allegedly began chatting with another undercover detective through the app “Hush,” according to court documents. The detective was posing as a “bad parent,” which is someone offering their child for sex in exchange for child pornography, access to other children for sex or sex with other adults interested in child sexual abuse and pornography. Almond asked the undercover detective to describe his purported “12-year-old daughter,” discussed traveling to Florida to have sex with the girl and sent explicit images of himself. Almond admitted to law enforcement agents to “talking inappropriately” with teenagers and those teenagers had sent sexual content to him. He also admitted to purchasing child pornography online from people who he believed to be minors. The case is pending in federal district court and Almond pled not guilty to the charges. Almond could be facing up to 60 years in prison and owe up to $1 million in fines if convicted. The possibility of Almond petitioning to reinstate his emergency medical technician license depends on the resolution of the case, according to RIDOH. The sentence on a charge of receipt of child pornography ranges from five to 20 years in prison, along with at least five years of supervised release and a fine up to $250,000. Charges of possessing child pornography carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison with at least five years of supervised release and a fine up to $250,000. The charges of attempted transfer, and the transfer of obscene material each carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine up to $250,000. Almond’s attorney declined to comment. Representatives for the Lincoln Fire Department did not immediately respond to Providence Business News' request for comment.
