MIDDLETOWN – A luxury condominium in a former mansion, called Bancroft on the Bluffs, sold this week for $1.9 million, the highest sale this year for a Rhode Island condo, according to a news release from Hogan Associates Monday.

The sale involved Unit 6 at 575 Tuckerman Ave., a three-bedroom condominium covering 3,300-square-feet, with an artist’s studio and superb water views, according to an  Hogan Associates’ announcement. The sale closed on Sept. 15.

The building was originally designed as a five-story summer cottage in 1895 for John Chandler Bancroft, a mine owner and patron of the arts. His friends, who visited the site, included Winslow Homer, John La Farge and Thomas Eakins, according to a narrative.

It is located in the Easton’s Point area of Middletown, with dramatic water views.

Leslie Hogan, broker owner of Newport-based Hogan Associates, represented the seller. Jan Corbin, a Realtor associate with Lila Delman Real Estate International, represented the buyer.
