2. Cheryl Snead, founder, CEO and president of Banneker Industries, dies POSTED ONLINE: JAN. 23. Cheryl W. Snead, the president, CEO and founder of Banneker Industries Inc., died at age 59 following complications from surgery. Snead founded Banneker Industries, an integrated logistics and supply-chain management company based in North Smithfield, in 1991 and expanded the company to three locations across the U.S. Snead was also a longtime advocate for the advancement of women.

3. PBN names 2018 Best Places To Work honorees POSTED ONLINE: MAY 4. Providence Business News announced the awardees of its 2018 Best Places To Work competition, all of which were recognized in a ceremony held at the Crowne Plaza Providence-Warwick on June 14. The honorees were judged based on confidential surveys of employees and management conducted by Best Companies Group. Amgen Inc. (Enterprise), Navigant Credit Union (Large Companies), Edward Jones (Midsize Companies) and Vertikal6 (Small Companies) were named the top businesses for each category.

4. Metacomet Country Club in East Providence listed for sale POSTED ONLINE: OCT. 18. Metacomet Country Club was placed on the market in the fall, listed for $3.5 million, according to Tampa, Fla.-based Leisure Investment Properties Group of Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services. The 105-acre, 18-hole private golf club opened in 1926 at its current location at 500 Veterans Memorial Parkway, East Providence. The club is seeking investment to rejuvenate the facilities.
