PROVIDENCE – Medicaid termination notices have been sent to a number of unknown Rhode Islanders in error in recent weeks, WPRI-TV CBS 12 reported Dec. 11.
A woman contacted WPRI-TV in November claiming she received a termination notice from HealthSource RI informing her family their Medicaid benefits would be terminated due to her death.
The mistake was initially believed to be an isolated incident due to human error, but after the woman’s interview aired, more people came forward saying they received similar notices due to a death in the family when none had occurred.
HealthSource RI spokesperson Kyrie Perry confirmed some inaccurate notices had gone out but did not know how many. She said the state is working with Deloitte to research, diagnose and resolve the issue.
The state’s new computer system for benefits has been plagued by problems since its launch in 2016.
