EAST GREENWICH – A new gastrointestinal/endoscopy technician course is set to launch in February at New England Institute of Technology.
The first class is expected to consist of about 20 students. Participants will learn about a variety of endoscopes and how to assist with procedures, including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, bronchoscopy and duodenoscopy. Instruction will also include proper handling, cleaning and sterilizing of equipment.

The accelerated three-month curriculum consists of 80 lecture hours on the New England Tech campus and 220 clinical hours completed at designated sites across the state. Students will work with physicians and registered nurses specializing in endoscopy during the course.
“This hands-on learning style fosters relationships between doctors and technicians, building trust in quality work output,” said Steven H. Kitchin, vice president of corporate education and training at New England Institute of Technology. “The mentor/mentee relationship allows participants to complete work off-site and gain knowledge from hospitals or clinics at which they will be working.”
Designed for people working in entry-level jobs who would like to gain more skills, or medical facilities seeking further training for existing employees, the course offers day and evening hours.
