PORTSMOUTH – The New England Boatworks Inc. marina will become the state’s largest clean marina during a presentation on Friday.

The clean marina program is a voluntary initiative designed by the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council that rewards marinas that go beyond regulatory requirements by applying stringent pollution prevention practices, according to a press release from the Rhode Island Marines Trade Association on Thursday.

The process includes a preliminary pledge, a review board, and a final inspection to determine if a marina’s practice policies passes the RICRMC’s certification checklist.

New England Boatworks will be the  fifth operation to earn the distinction since the program’s inception in February 2007.

The press release highlights NEB’s installation of a trash skimmer near its fuel dock, which reduces marine debris in the area as an example of its commitment to maintaining a clean marina.

The event will take place at 10 a.m. at the NEB marina.
