EAST GREENWICH – New England Institute of Technology will host the 13th annual For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology Tech Challenge on Feb. 9.
Forty-nine middle school and high school robotics teams from across the state will gather at New England Tech’s Center for Automotive Technology in Warwick for the event. The theme this year, “Rover Ruckus,” will present science, technology, engineering and math concepts with an outer-space theme, NEIT, FIRST’s Tech Challenge affiliate partner, said in a statement.

FIRST, which was founded by Dean Kamen of New Hampshire in 1989, has a mission to inspire a love of science and technology in students via the fun of robotics work. Teams practice problem-solving, critical thinking, team-building and other skills. This year, the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship takes place April 24-27 in Detroit.
The Feb. 9 event is from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
