EAST PROVIDENCE – Although much of the attention on the Washington Bridge redevelopment project has focused on the proposed removal of the Gano Street off-ramp to the East Side of Providence, a significant change is included for East Providence.

The design plan submitted by the R.I. Department of Transportation as part of a federal grant application includes a new exit off Interstate 195 for East Providence, connecting to Waterfront Drive.

This would provide faster access to and egress from Bold Point Park and other locations where economic development is being encouraged along the East Providence waterfront.

Among the letters of support for the Washington Bridge grant application were those from officials in East Providence, the East Providence Chamber of Commerce and RI Waterfront Enterprises LLC, a business that is among the partners behind a new outdoor music venue near Bold Point Park.
