NEWPORT – The Newport County Chamber of Commerce will hold a showcase event on Thursday, May 4, as part of its STEAM Before Hours collaboration with local businesses to highlight the importance of emerging tech industries in Newport.
STEAM, an acronym that stands for “science, technology, engineering, art and math,” represents both the industries related to those fields and a set of workforce skills considered vital for students and professionals seeking employment with Rhode Island’s tech and manufacturing companies.

FabNewport showcased Aiming to empower learners to master powerful technology and develop a growth mindset. FabNewport showcased how children as young as 10 are learning to use powerful tools, machines and materials to advance their learning.

Cyber Range, the state’s first such facility, officially opened last October on the Community College of Rhode Island’s Newport County Campus. For the STEAM Before Hours event, Cyber Range will showcase the hands-on testing environment it offers for students and industry professionals, complete with a virtual platform for cybersecurity modeling, simulation and job training.
