Newport Restoration Foundation announces grants

NEWPORT – The Newport Restoration Foundation announced that it has handed out a total of more than $32,000 in grants to seven organizations for their preservation work last year.
The grants were awarded to the Beavertail Lighthouse Foundation, City of Newport, Edward King House, Little Compton Historical Society, Stanford White Casino, Trinity Church and Whitehall Museum House.
The grants, part of the second annual Doris Duke Historic Preservation Awards, are intended to “recognize local achievements in historic preservation,” according to the foundation.
“Historic preservation is at its most vulnerable during an economic downturn, as everyone’s budgets are stretched,” foundation Executive Director Pieter N. Roos said in a statement. “We are delighted to support the important work of preserving local architecture by offering assistance to vibrant local organizations who give back so much to the Newport community.
