NewportFed director Conti resigns

NEWPORT – Newport Bancorp, the holding company for Newport Federal Savings Bank – or NewportFed – says bank director John N. Conti has resigned from the board as of Dec. 31 for “personal reasons.”
Conti’s departure was reported in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Conti, 64, who was also a member of the audit committee of the board of directors, had been a director on the 15-member board since 2005, when Newport Bancorp was formed through a merger of Westerly Savings Bank and Newport Federal.
Conti, president of John Conti Insurance Agency Inc., has previously served on the board at Westerly Savings.
