Nominations being accepted for 2019 Doris Duke Preservation Awards

THE NEWPORT RESTORATION FOUNDATION is accepting nominations until May 24 for the 2019 Doris Duke Preservation Awards, which highlight historic-preservation buildings, landscape projects and activities.

NEWPORT – Community members in Newport are asked to submit nominations for the Doris Duke Historic Preservation Awards, which highlight exemplary historic-preservation building and landscape projects, as well as historic-preservation activities.

The deadline is May 24.

The awards by the Newport Restoration Foundation recognize projects completed in the last three years that have enriched or added value to the communities of Aquidneck Island. The winners will be honored at a ceremony at Rough Point, the oceanfront home of the late Duke, a preservationist and heir to a tobacco fortune.

The criteria: eligible recipients can be individuals, nonprofit or for-profit institutions, and federal, state and local agencies; properties listed for sale will not be considered; and awards encourage a wide variety of building types, from small buildings to large landscapes or streetscapes. Up to three awards are made annually.
