About 50 Rhode Island nonprofits and churches took advantage through Dec. 31 in a free lighting program made possible through National Grid in Rhode Island.
Nonprofits that choose to participate received an unlimited amount of LED and fluorescent light bulbs for the organization, including free shipping. The only requirement was that all bulbs had to be installed within 30 days of delivery, said bulbs.com senior commercial lending specialist Bill McNally.
News of the freebie circulated in the Initiative for Nonprofit Excellence at the Rhode Island Foundation emailed newsletter.
Based in Worcester, Mass., the company bulbs.com has a rebate manager that coordinates these programs, McNally said. National Grid provides the instant rebate program, he said.
In October, some 50 schools and educational facilities in Rhode Island participated in a similar program, he said. Future plans for the program are expected to include hospitals in 2015, he added.
