Norway interior design students<br> to come to New England Tech

WARWICK – Interior design students from Norway will be hitting the books at the New England Institute of Technology next year under an agreement announced this week.
The college said that students who have completed a two-year program at the Norwegian School of Creative Studies may enroll in its bachelor of science program in interior design. The international students will spend 18 months studying the fundamentals of interior design, including finishes, materials, textiles, art history, construction law, lighting and the like. The school said the partnership would work well because the Norway school does not offer bachelor’s degrees in interior design.
“New England Institute of Technology is proud to be an international partner with the Norwegian School of Creative Studies,” said Provost Thomas Wylie. “Not only will the Norwegian students benefit from studying abroad, New England Tech students, faculty and administration will be afforded the opportunity to learn from our Norwegian students. It will be a great learning experience for everyone.”
Mark Seltzer, director of international admissions, said he expected the first students to arrive in fall 2011 and for the program to start small and grow over the years. New England Tech already hosts students from 32 countries, but this will be the first relationship with a school in Norway. It will also be the Norwegian school’s first relationship with a U.S. institution.
Seltzer said New England Tech approached the Norwegian School of Creative Studies about a partnership about 18 months ago, thinking the two schools would make a good fit. And while Norwegians will head to the U.S., Seltzer said there are currently no plans to send American students abroad.
