PROVIDENCE – Small businesses in Providence’s design sector are eligible for grants between $10,000 and $20,000 each under a program that city and state officials are expected to announce Tuesday.
The 2019-2020 program will provide local qualifying design businesses with a total of $185,000 in grants, as well as business mentoring and professional-development training to spur growth in Providence’s design sector.

The program is run by DESIGNxRI, a Providence nonprofit for economic development in the design sector.
DESIGNxRI Executive Director Lisa Carnevale, CIC Providence General Manager Rebecca Webber and Rebecca Atwood, past grant recipient and co-founder of Atomic Clock, are scheduled to attend the event at CIC Providence in the city’s Jewelry District.
“Through DESIGNxRI’s partnership with both the city of Providence and the R.I. Department of Labor and Training,” via the Real Jobs RI workforce and economic-development initiative, “and this year CIC Providence, the Providence Design Catalyst program supports Providence-based design businesses in reaching their business growth goals,” reads the announcement from Elorza’s office.
