Increasingly, patents are considered a company’s most valuable asset. So, as we continue to move into a “creative economy,” Rhode Island needs to assess where it stands in patents issued. In 2005, patents were issued at a per-capita rate of 1 per 4,092 in Rhode Island. In New England, only Maine had a lower rate.
