URI—the state of Rhode Island’s flagship public research university—is pleased to welcome three nationally respected leaders in education and health care as newly appointed deans of the Colleges of Pharmacy, Health Sciences, and Nursing, — Kerry LaPlante, dean of pharmacy; Patrick Vivier, dean of health sciences; and Danny Willis, dean of nursing.

URI faculty, clinicians, and researchers engage in interdisciplinary work to educate thoughtful, skilled health professionals who understand the multifaceted aspects of caring for communities and keeping them healthy.

Noted health education leader, scholar, and pediatrician Patrick Vivier is the new dean of the URI College of Health Sciences. Prior to his tenure at Tufts, which began in 2022, he served on the faculty at Brown University for more than 25 years and was a pediatrician at Rhode Island’s Hasbro Children’s Hospital. At Brown, Vivier was the founding director of the Hassenfeld Child Health Innovation Institute. He helped establish an interdisciplinary team of faculty and staff spanning the Schools of Medicine and Public Health, Hasbro Children’s Hospital, and Women and Infants Hospital that engaged in interdisciplinary research.
