Pawtucket to begin converting streetlights to LED fixtures in August

PAWTUCKET – The city has announced that Siemens will begin conversion of streetlights citywide to LED units.

The installation is expected to begin in August.

The conversion will change the high-pressure sodium bulbs to LED fixtures, which last longer and cost less to operate. In addition, National Grid and the R.I. Office of Energy Resources will provide the city with rebates.

Completion is expected in January 2020.

The city anticipates it will save $5 million in energy savings over the next 13 years.
