PROVIDENCE – In an effort to build up its academics, enhance student experience and make education more affordable, Providence College has launched the largest fundraising campaign in its 107-year history.
PC President The Rev. Kenneth R. Sicard formally stated during the college’s Homecoming Weekend that PC has begun its $300 million “Beyond Limits: The Campaign for Providence College” campaign. This initiative is similar in dollar amount to the University of Rhode Island’s “Big ideas. Bold Plans. The Campaign for the University of Rhode Island” campaign, which
surpassed raising more than $300 million back in June after
launching four years ago.
PC’s previous nine-figure fundraising campaign was its “Our Moment: The Next Century Campaign for Providence College,” which concluded in 2017 after raising $185 million.
Sicard said Oct. 18 that PC has already raised more than $165 million toward the goal during the campaign’s quiet phase. That amount, he said, included a $10 million gift from college alum and retired financial services consultant Ronald P. Stride, Sicard said.
PC also says the campaign’s quiet phase also included
the $10 million gift from Madeleine Mondor, widow of former Pawtucket Red Sox owner Ben Mondor, to support the ongoing construction of the new Ben Mondor Center for Nursing and Health Sciences building – scheduled to open in January.
“We will always honor and remain faithful to our Catholic and Dominican mission and heritage. We will foster an institution known far beyond our region for our outstanding liberal arts-based education, our superb professional schools, and our ability to innovate to meet the moment,” Sicard said. “We will be renowned for providing a superior student experience, including varsity athletics, to ensure that our students flourish in mind, body, and spirit. We will renew our commitment to diversity that reflects the Catholic Church and the world around us by making PC accessible to all deserving and qualified students.”
