PAWTUCKET – Goodbye Pawtucket Credit Union, hello Coastal1 Credit Union.

The local credit union has officially changed its name as of May 18, according to a news release. The company shared plans for the rebranding in March, explaining to PBN that the new name and logo are intended to reflect the institution’s expansion across Rhode Island, and soon into Massachusetts.

That geography includes 17 branches across the state and $3 billion in assets, including the first-ever Providence branch, which opened on the East Side in December. Later this year, the credit union will be adding its first branch in Massachusetts, on land purchased along Route 1 in North Attleboro.

“Our name has changed, but not our commitment to our members and the communities we serve,” CEO and President Brian Azar said in a statement. “We look forward to continuing to provide ‘The Smarter Way to Bank.’ ”

All routing and account numbers will stay the same. A new website, coastal1.org, has been unveiled in time for the official May 18 changeover.
