PROVIDENCE – Point32Health Co. is now seeking a new CEO.
The Canton, Mass.-based nonprofit health insurer and combined entity of Tufts Health Plan and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care announced Friday that Cain A. Hayes has left Point32Health to “pursue other opportunities,” but would not elaborate as to what those opportunities are. Additionally, current Point32Health board Chairperson Eileen Auen will serve as interim executive chair effective immediately to lead the organization until a new CEO is hired, Point32Health says.
“Eileen has served on the Board of Point32Health and its predecessor companies for over eight years and as Chair since June 2022,” said Bert Scott, fellow director and chair of Point32Health’s governance committee, in a statement. “We are truly fortunate that Eileen, with her knowledge of the organization and industry, will step in to lead the company during this transition.”
Hayes became Point32Health’s top executive in July 2021, six months after Tufts and Harvard Pilgrim formally combined into a single entity. Hayes, who was CEO and president of Gateway Health before arriving in New England, succeeded Tom Croswell, who retired in January 2021 but served as an adviser through the end of July 2021.
Through June 30, Point32Health has covered 24,093 lives in Rhode Island, including 22,979 being directly insured, according to recent Providence Business News research. In Bristol County, Mass., 41,442 total lives were covered, including 17,152 being directly insured through March 31, according to the most-recent data available by the Massachusetts Division of Insurance.
