PROVIDENCE – Pill-free maternity-supplement company Premama is selling three new products at more than 3,000 locations among seven retailers, the latest step in realizing nationwide sales, the results of which will inform expansion into products for men and children.

The new products – Premama Prenatal Vitamin + DHA + Iron Gummy; Prenatal Energy Drink Mix; and Prenatal Sleep Aid Soft Chew – are intended to solve common pregnancy discomforts, including fatigue, insomnia and difficulty swallowing prenatal vitamin pills.

The Prenatal Vitamin + DHA + Iron Gummy multivitamin contains folic acid, 50 milligrams DHA, iron and 30 milligrams of vitamin B6, intended to soothe morning sickness. The product makes the company the first to market with a gummy supplement for women with DHA and iron.

“The gummy format allows moms to easily take their prenatal vitamins without the difficulty of swallowing large horse pills,” said Jamie Schapiro, chief marketing officer at Premama.

Premama’s caffeine-free Prenatal Energy Drink Mix uses fiber to curb fatigue, Omega-3 to boost mood and B vitamins to naturally boost energy and help soothe the side effects of morning sickness.

The company’s Prenatal Sleep Aid Soft Chew uses valerian root and magnesium to promote sleep and provide muscle-discomfort relief. It also contains vitamin D and potassium. The chew is gluten-free, vegetarian, non-GMO and chocolate-flavored.

“Everything we do is a pill-free format,” Schapiro said.

The products can be found at more than 3,000 locations in select stores, including the following:

  • Walgreen stores: Premama Prenatal Vitamin + DHA + Iron Gummy (1,000 stores)
  • The Vitamin Shoppe: Premama Prenatal Vitamin + DHA + Iron Gummy, Premama Sleep Aid and Premama Energy Drink Mix (780 stores)
  • Sprouts Farmers Market: Premama Sleep Aid and Premama Energy Drink Mix (280 stores)
  • GNC: Premama Sleep Aid and Premama Energy Drink Mix (1,000 stores)
  • Meijer: Premama Prenatal Vitamin + DHA + Iron Gummy and Premama Sleep Aid (62 of 220 stores)
  • Amazon and Jet.com: Premama Prenatal Vitamin + DHA + Iron Gummy, Premama Sleep Aid and Premama Energy Drink Mix

“A lot of the stores are taking a look at the sales and they’re testing it out,” Schapiro said. In the case of Walgreen stores, for example, they’ll meet with representatives from the company to review how Premama’s products have been performing, and that meeting will inform whether the prenatal vitamins are sold in more of the retailer’s stores.

Established Premama products are sold at retailers across the U.S., including GNC, CVS, Walgreen stores, Target, The Vitamin Shoppe, Sprouts, Meijer, Buy Buy Baby, and Amazon and Jet.com.

For the future, Schapiro said the company hopes to use what they’re learning about the supplement market to inform plans to expand beyond expecting and new moms. He declined to say which group they may expand to serve first.

“We really want to push the envelope,” Schapiro said.
