PROVIDENCE – The Providence Athenaeum has reported its performance this past fiscal year included record breaking fundraising, membership and visitors.
Contributions to the library’s annual fund totaled a record $276,018, a 13 percent increase over the previous fiscal year.

Membership to the Athenaeum for the fiscal year grew to to 1,165 members, a 16 percent uptick that the the organization noted was larger than that of the previous 5 years combined.
The number of annual visitors to the library also grew by 11 percent over the previous fiscal year, comprising over 50,000 total members, tourists and community members over the last 12 months, another record for the organization.
“We owe the Athenaeum’s success to a staff and membership who fully support its mission to safeguard the humanities, celebrate critical thinking and foster civil discourse,” said board president R. Tripp Evans said.
“Sometimes it may seem that the country doesn’t value institutions like (the Athenaeum),” Evans said, adding that “thankfully, Providence does.”
Over five years, the donor base of the Athenaeum has increased by 54 percent, with 609 patrons aiding this year’s fundraising campaign.
The Providence Athenaeum was incorporated in 1836.
