PROVIDENCE – The average weekly wage in Providence County declined 0.3% year over year in the fourth quarter of 2018 to $1,114, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Wednesday.

The decline ranked Providence County No. 337 for year over year percent change in weekly wage of the largest 350 counties in the nation.

Among the 350 largest counties, 332 had over-the-year increases in average weekly wages.

Employment in Providence County increased 0.3% year over year to 291,300. The county had 18,700 establishments in the fourth quarter.

The United States average weekly wage in the fourth quarter was $1,144, a 3.2% increase year over year. Employment in the U.S. increased 1.5% year over year.

The other two counties in the BLS report in the Providence metropolitan area were Kent County and Bristol County Mass.

Kent County figures:

The average weekly wage in Kent County as $950 in the fourth quarter of 2018, a 2% increase year over year. The weekly wage growth rate in the county ranked No. 257 of the largest 350 counties in the United States.

Employment in Kent County increased 0.8% year over year in the fourth quarter of 2018 to 77,900 workers. The number establishments in the county was 5,500.

Bristol County, Mass.

The average weekly wage in Bristol County, Mass., was $1,021, a 3.8% increase year over year. The increase ranked No. 101 among the largest 350 counties in the nation.

Employment in Bristol County, Mass., totaled 233,200, a 0.9% increase year over year. Establishments at the end of the fourth quarter totaled 18,000.
