NORTH KINGSTOWN – A $7.5 million, 103-room hotel is coming to Quonset Business Park in February 2011.
Developers and state officials broke ground last week on the Towne Place Suites by Marriott that will sit in the Gateway Center across from The Shops at Quonset Point. Developers said the four-story hotel is designed to accommodate long-term guests and the facility will include a pool, a fitness room, an outdoor patio and one- and two-bedroom suites with kitchens. The project has been registered with the U.S. Green Building Council and developers expect it to garner Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
“It’s great to see continued growth at Quonset,” said Keith W. Stokes, executive director of the R.I. Economic Development Corporation. “The development of a ‘green’ hotel gives us hope that the economy is turning for Rhode Island. We’re working hard to build a green economy in the state and at Quonset; this will only add to the already positive attributes we offer businesses.”
The project is being undertaken by Waterford Development of Needham, Mass., and New Boston Fund Inc., a real estate investment, development and management firm. Pro Con Inc. of Manchester, N.H., is the architect and construction manager while Colwen Management of Nashua, N.H., will manage the 55,453-square-foot hotel at the entrance to the park.
“Town Place Suites is one of the only new hotels breaking ground currently,” said Jim Kelleher, New Boston Fund’s chief investment officer. “And we feel this is a true testament to the excellent location and growth of the Gateway Center and the Quonset Business Park as a whole.”
Other officials joining the groundbreaking included Gov. Donald L. Carcieri, Pro Con President John Samenfeld and Quonset Development Corporation Managing Director Steven King, among others.
