PROVIDENCE – The average price of a gallon of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline declined 2 cents this week in Rhode Island to $2.64 per gallon, 15 cents above the national average, according to AAA Northeast Tuesday.
This time last year the price of regular gas was 42 cents lower at $2.22 per gallon. Prices in Rhode Island currently range 37 cents for regular, from a low of $2.39 to a high of $2.76.

Midgrade unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island averaged $2.93 per gallon, ranging from $2.59 to $3.05 per gallon. Premium unleaded averaged $3.10 this week, ranging from $2.78 to $3.25 per gallon. Diesel fuel in the Ocean State averaged $2.74, ranging from $2.60 to $2.79 per gallon.
In Massachusetts, the average price for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline fell 5 cents this week to $2.55 per gallon, 6 cents above the national average.
Year over year, the price for regular gasoline in Massachusetts increased 42 cents. Prices in the Bay State range 50 cents, from $2.29 per gallon to $2.79 per gallon.
Midgrade unleaded in Massachusetts averaged $2.81 this week, ranging from $2.55 to $3.05 per gallon. Premium unleaded averaged $2.98 this week, ranging from $2.75 to $3.29 per gallon. Diesel fuel in the Bay State averaged $2.69 this week, ranging from $2.59 to $2.95 per gallon.
