PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve unleaded regular gasoline dropped 1 cent this week to $2.34 per gallon, an increase of 10 cents year over year,  AAA Northeast announced Monday.

Rhode Island gas prices range 38 cents, with a low of $2.22 to a high of $2.60. Average Rhode Island gas prices are 2 cents below the national average.

Massachusetts’ average price for self-serve unleaded regular dropped 3 cents this week to $2.30 per gallon, which is 6 cents below the national average. Gas prices in Massachusetts, like Rhode Island, have increased 10 cents year over year. Massachusetts gas prices range 34 cents, from a low of $2.12 to a high of $2.46.

The National price for self-serve regular unleaded is $2.36 per gallon, which is 4 cents less than one week ago. The national average price of gas has increased 14 cents year over year.  AAA attributes the recent trend of falling gas prices to a “unseasonable glut of gasoline” in the U.S. market, high refinery production rates, a drop in crude oil prices and a moderate demand.
