PROVIDENCE – Prices for self-serve, regular gasoline in Rhode Island declined 1 cent this week to $2.59 per gallon, according to AAA Northeast.
Regular gasoline in Rhode Island is 11 cents above the national average of $2.48 per gallon and 39 cents higher than at this time last year. Regular gasoline prices ranged 26 cents, from $2.44 to $2.70 per gallon.
Midgrade unleaded gasoline averaged $2.88 per gallon this week, ranging from $2.64 to $2.99 per gallon.
Premium unleaded gas averaged $3.02 in Rhode Island this week, ranging from $2.68 to $3.19 per gallon. Diesel fuel averaged $2.81 this week, ranging from $2.76 to $2.89.
“While prices locally have come down from the post-Harvey highs, increases in crude oil prices from OPEC production cuts along with solid demand throughout the fall have kept them from tumbling further and quicker,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs, in a statement. “We’re hopeful that cheaper winter gas prices are on our door step as current demand is hitting the lowest mark since back in February.”
In Massachusetts, regular gas prices remained at an average of $2.48 per gallon, 37 cents higher than this time last year and equal to the national average. Regular gasoline in Massachusetts ranged 48 cents from a low of $2.31 to a high of $2.79 per gallon.
Midgrade gasoline averaged $2.72 in the Bay State this week, ranging from a low of $2.52 to a high of $2.99 per gallon. Premium unleaded averaged $2.88 per gallon this week, ranging from $2.71 to $3.25 per gallon.
Diesel fuel in Massachusetts averaged $2.78 per gallon, ranging from $2.69 to $2.94 per gallon.
