PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island gas prices dropped 1 cent this week, according to AAA Northeast on Monday.

Self-serve regular unleaded is averaging $2.35 per gallon. Year over year, the average price has risen 12 cents.  AAA also reported that the state has a 30-cent price range for regular unleaded gas, $2.19 to $2.49 per gallon. Rhode Island’s regular unleaded average price is 5 cents below the national average, which is currently $2.40 per gallon.

In Massachusetts, the average price for regular unleaded gas was unchanged at $2.33 per gallon, 7 cents below the national average, while rising 15 cents year over year. AAA Northeast reported that Massachusetts regular unleaded price range also is 30 cents, ranging from $2.19 to $2.49 per gallon.

Nationally, the unleaded regular average dropped 3 cents this week, but still increased 9 cents year over year. AAA reports that last year, the country was experiencing higher consumer demand and prices were rising, the results of which the nation is still experiencing, owing in large part to an OPEC production agreement.

However, AAA also notes that substantial increases of the national gas price average have not taken place this year due to low demand nationally and increased gasoline inventories.
