R.I. gas prices hold steady, Mass. prices fall 2 cents

PROVIDENCE – The price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline remained unchanged this week at $2.53 per gallon, 2 cents below the national average of $2.55 per gallon, according to AAA Northeast Monday.

Prices in the Ocean State ranged 22 cents, from $2.41 to $2.63 per gallon. Last year at this time, prices for regular gas were 31 cents lower at an average of $2.22 per gallon.

“Continued strong demand combined with record U.S. crude oil production has been keeping prices locally relatively stable,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs. “The current price in Rhode Island is just 2 cents higher than back at the beginning of the year.”

Midgrade gas in Rhode Island averaged $2.80 this week, ranging from $2.66 to $2.99 per gallon.

Premium gas averaged $3.01 per gallon this week, ranging from $2.86 to $3.11 per gallon.

Diesel fuel averaged $2.99 this week, ranging from $2.91 to $3.05 per gallon.

In Massachusetts, regular gasoline declined 2 cents to $2.48 per gallon, 7 cents below the national average. Prices ranged 44 cents in the Bay State from $2.35 to $2.79 per gallon. Last year at this time, Massachusetts gas was 32 cents cheaper at $2.16 per gallon.

Midgrade gas in Massachusetts averaged $2.76 this week, ranging from $2.55 to $2.99 per gallon.

Premium gas averaged $2.93 per gallon, ranging from $2.68 to $3.25 per gallon.

Diesel fuel averaged $2.92 in Massachusetts this week, ranging from $2.61 to $3.04 per gallon.
