PROVIDENCE – Prices for self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline increased 8 cents this week to $2.37 per gallon, according to AAA Northeast Monday.
Prices in the Ocean State are 2 cents higher than the national average; year over year, gasoline prices are 23 cents higher this week.
Prices for self-serve, regular unleaded in the state ranged 26 cents from $2.21-$2.47 per gallon.
The average price for self-serve, midgrade unleaded was $2.61 per gallon, while self-serve, premium unleaded gasoline averaged $2.82 per gallon.
“U.S. crude oil inventories are moving down, while summer gasoline demand is going up – the perfect storm for August price increases,” Lloyd Albert, senior vice president of public and government affairs, said in a news release. “All eyes are on the meeting of OPEC nations to see what changes, if any, will be made to their current production cutbacks.”
In Massachusetts, self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.30 per gallon, 5 cents below the national average and 24 cents higher than this time last year. Prices increased 5 cents on the week.
Prices in Massachusetts for self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline ranged 38 cents from $2.16-$2.54 per gallon.
The average price for self-serve, midgrade unleaded gasoline was $2.51 per gallon in the Bay State, while the price for self-serve, premium unleaded gasoline was $2.68 per gallon.
