PROVIDENCE – Prices for self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline declined 1 cent this week to an average $2.73 per gallon in Rhode Island, 54 cents higher than this time last year, according to a AAA Northeast report released Monday.
Rhode Island prices for regular unleaded gas were 10 cents above the national average and ranged 18 cents from $2.64 to $2.82 per gallon.

“As Gulf Coast refineries come back on line and production picks up, we see prices at the pump leveling off and now beginning to drop,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs. “Historically, hurricane-related price spikes are dramatic but brief.”
Prices for Rhode Island midgrade unleaded gasoline averaged $2.96 this week, ranging from $2.84 to $3.08. Premium unleaded gasoline averaged $3.16 this week, ranging from $2.99 to $3.30. Diesel fuel averaged 2.73, ranging from $2.60 to $2.80 per gallon.
In Massachusetts, self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline prices fell 5 cents to an average of $2.66 per gallon, 3 cents above the national average and 55 cents higher than this time last year.
Prices for regular unleaded gas in the Bay State ranged 30 cents from $2.50 to $2.80 per gallon.
Regular midgrade gasoline in Massachusetts averaged $2.88 this week, ranging from $2.73 to $3.06 per gallon. Premium unleaded gasoline averaged $3.03 per gallon, ranging from $2.83 to $3.26 per gallon.
Diesel fuel averaged $2.67 in Massachusetts this week, ranging from $2.50 to $2.92 per gallon.
