PROVIDENCE – The price for self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island rose by a cent this week, reaching $2.27 per gallon, according to AAA Northeast Monday. The rise puts prices in the state two cents below the national average of $2.29 per gallon. A year ago, prices in Rhode Island were five cents lower, an average of $2.22 per gallon.
Regular unleaded gas in the state now ranges in price by 35 cents, from $2.10 to $2.45.

The price of self-serve, midgrade unleaded now averages $2.52 while the price of premium unleaded stands at $2.72. Diesel prices now average $2.47 per gallon.
“All eyes are on this week’s actions of OPEC and non-OPEC oil producers as they decide whether to extend production cuts,” said Lloyd Albert, senior vice president of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Northeast. “In the meantime, a continuing global glut of crude oil has helped keep gasoline prices in check.”
Self-serve, regular unleaded gas in Massachusetts rose by three cents this week, reaching an average price of $2.22, seven cents below the national average and seven cents higher than the average price in the state a year ago. Prices in Massachusetts now range 32 cents from $2.08 to $2.42 per gallon.
Self-service midgrade unleaded gas in Massachusetts now runs an average of $2.46 while the average price of premium unleaded is $2.63. Diesel now costs an average of $2.45.
