R.I. and Mass. gas prices hold steady before Thanksgiving

PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, unleaded regular gasoline in Rhode Island held level at $2.49 per gallon this week, 10 cents below the national average of $2.59 per gallon, according to AAA Northeast Monday.

Regular gas prices ranged 34 cents from $2.35 to $2.69 per gallon.

Prices in the Ocean State were 15 cents higher one year prior at $2.64 per gallon.

  • Midgrade gas averaged $2.77 per gallon, ranging from $2.66 to $2.99 per gallon.
  • Premium gas averaged $2.94 per gallon, ranging from $2.86 to $3.09 per gallon.
  • Diesel fuel averaged $2.99 per gallon, ranging from $2.88 to $3.35 per gallon.

“Thanksgiving travelers will benefit from flat prices this week for regular unleaded gasoline – the price is unchanged from last week, and roughly 15 cents lower than at this time last year here in Rhode Island,” said Senior Vice President of AAA Public and Government Affairs Lloyd Albert in a statement. “Consider filling your tank today for your holiday journey, as increased demand from travelers later this week could boost prices at the pump.”

Massachusetts gas prices also held at $2.49 per gallon this week, 20 cents lower than prices at this time last year. Prices ranged 79 cents, from $2.26 to $3.05 per gallon.

  • Midgrade gas averaged $2.78 per gallon, ranging from $2.49 to $3.09 per gallon.
  • Premium gas averaged $2.94 per gallon, ranging from $2.69 to $3.39 per gallon.
  • Diesel fuel averaged $2.96 per gallon, ranging from $2.69 to $3.29 per gallon.
