PROVIDENCE – General revenue cash collections totaled $410 million in July, a 6.5% decline year over year to start the fiscal year, according to the R.I. Department of Revenue Friday.

The shift is largely attributable to a $31 million lottery transfer collection in July 2018. The DOR said that lottery transfer usually begins in August, and therefore is $0 in July. Cash collections, excluding lottery transfer, for Rhode Island in July increased $2.7 million year over year. The irregularity of the $31 million advance payments lottery transfer in July 2018 was noted at the time.

Departmental receipts in July totaled $178.8 million, a 2.3% decline year over year.

Sales and use taxes collected in the month totaled $105 million, a 3.7% increase from July 2018 collections.
