CRANSTON – The R.I. Division of Motor Vehicles was recognized by a motor-industry trade association for its communication efforts during the replacement of its 40-year-old computer system last year.
The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators named the DMV as the winner of a divisional award in the region for its changeover success with the launch of the Rhode Island Motor Vehicle System.

At the Region I conference in Wilmington, Del., the DMV learned it will receive AAMVA’s International Award as well.
“Division employees and their partners at RDW Group worked tirelessly to ensure our customers, our network of associate groups and government agencies in Rhode Island and elsewhere were prepared for the changeover to a modern computer system,” said Walter R. “Bud” Craddock, administrator of the R.I. DMV. “The commitment shown by DMV personnel and their project partners was unparalleled.”
The communications campaign educated customers about launch logistics, helped managed customer service efforts and coordinated contact between agencies, according to the DMV.
