PROVIDENCE – The price of self-serve, regular unleaded gas increased 3 cents to $2.85 per gallon, 4 cents higher than the national average of $2.81, according to AAA Northeast Monday.

Prices ranged 24 cents from a low of $2.75 per gallon to a high of $2.99 per gallon.

Last year at this time, prices were 52 cents lower at $2.33 per gallon.

“Crude oil prices are topping $70 a barrel this morning, and pushing up prices at the pump once again,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs, in a statement. “Rising crude prices, combined with geopolitical tensions that raise concerns about the supply of oil and energy products, are putting upward pressure on the market.”
