PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island increased 2 cents from last week to $2.51 per gallon, 7 cents below the national average of $2.58 per gallon, according to AAA Northeast Monday.
Prices ranged 30 cents from $2.39 to $2.69 per gallon. Last year at this time, prices were 8 cents higher.

“Despite minimal increases, prices locally continue to be lower than they were at this same time last year,” said Lloyd Albert, senior vice president of AAA public and government affairs, in a statement. “That’s good news for holiday shoppers and those planning trips to be with family and friends.”
- Midgrade gas averaged $2.84 per gallon, ranging from $2.66 to $3.05 per gallon.
- Premium gas averaged $3.05 per gallon, ranging from $2.86 to $3.35 per gallon.
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.01 per gallon, ranging from $2.94 to $3.35 per gallon.
In Massachusetts, the average price of regular gas increased 2 cents from the previous week to $2.51 per gallon. Prices ranged 83 cents from $2.26 to $3.09 per gallon. Last year at this time, prices were 13 cents higher.
- Midgrade gas averaged $2.70 per gallon, ranging from $2.49 to $3.09 per gallon.
- Premium gas averaged $2.90 per gallon, ranging from $2.69 to $3.39 per gallon.
- Diesel fuel averaged $2.97 per gallon, ranging from $2.69 to $3.29 per gallon.
