Radio Shack to close ?11 Rhode Island stores

Radio Shack will close 11 of its 21 locations in Rhode Island, according to the company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filings made public last week.The locations that will be shuttered are: Warwick Avenue, T.F. Green Airport and Warwick Mall in Warwick; New London Pike in Coventry; 100 Commerce Way in Johnston; Narragansett Shopping Center in East Providence; Ocean State Plaza in Warren; Eagle Square in Providence; Smithfield Road in North Providence; and Lincoln Mall in Lincoln.Additional closings are expected in Bristol County, Mass., including in Fall River, New Bedford and Swansea.The company’s restructuring plan would keep up to 1,750 RadioShack-controlled stores open under Sprint’s ownership, Bloomberg News reported. The phone carrier gets the right to use 600 square feet of the RadioShack locations as “stores within stores.” n
